History & significance

Bowl barrow 420m ENE of Quarry Farm is a Bronze Age funerary monument forming part of the Redhill round barrow cemetery near Weston-super-Mare in Somerset. The barrow is a simple bowl-shaped mound typical of Bronze Age burial practices, constructed to cover a cremation or inhumation burial, and would originally have stood considerably higher than its present eroded state. As one of several barrows clustered within this cemetery site, it represents the communal burial landscape characteristic of the Early to Middle Bronze Age, roughly dating to the second millennium before the present. The monument is protected as a scheduled ancient monument and remains an important archaeological record of prehistoric funerary tradition in the Somerset landscape.
