History & significance

Bowl barrow in Sares Wood is a prehistoric burial mound located approximately 430 metres south west of Wood Barn in Dorset. The monument dates to the Bronze Age and represents a characteristic example of the round barrow tradition that was widespread across southern England during this period. The barrow survives as an earthwork mound with the typical bowl-shaped form from which it takes its name, indicating its archaeological classification and construction type.
