Bradley mote is a Norman motte-and-bailey earthwork located in Gloucestershire. The monument consists of a substantial mound characteristic of early Norman defensive architecture, dating to the 11th or 12th century. Such mottes served as fortified strongholds during the period following the Norman Conquest, functioning as centres of local authority and defence. The site represents an important example of the rapid fortification of the English landscape under Norman rule, when numerous such earthwork castles were constructed throughout the country to consolidate control over newly conquered territory.
