Bremenium is a Roman auxiliary fort located at High Rochester in Northumberland, positioned on Dere Street in the Cheviot Hills. Constructed in the 2nd century AD and occupied into the 3rd century, the fort served as a strategic garrison controlling the northern frontier of Roman Britain and maintaining supply routes into Scotland. The site preserves substantial earthwork remains of the fort's defensive structures, including ditches and ramparts, along with archaeological evidence of stone buildings and military occupation. Bremenium represents an important example of Roman military architecture in the upland frontier zone and has yielded significant inscriptional and artefactual evidence of the cohorts and soldiers stationed there.
