Burgh by Sands Roman fort is a first and second century AD auxiliary fort situated on the Solway Firth in Cumberland, England, forming part of the western frontier system of Roman Britain. The fort, known in Roman records as Aballava, was established to control movement along the coast and served as a supply base for operations in northern Britain, with particular importance during the campaigns of the early Imperial period. The site preserves substantial remains of the fort's defences and internal structures, including evidence of stone fortification characteristic of forts rebuilt in the second century. The fort lies along the line of Hadrian's Wall, between wall miles 70 and 71, and forms an integral part of the wall's coastal extension where it terminates at Burgh Head overlooking the Solway estuary.
