Burton upon Trent Abbey is a Benedictine monastery founded in 1002 and located in Staffordshire in the English Midlands. The abbey grew to considerable wealth and influence during the medieval period, holding extensive lands across the region and playing a significant role in local ecclesiastical affairs. The site was dissolved during the Reformation in the sixteenth century, and substantial monastic buildings, including ranges of domestic structures, survive today in fragmentary form, attesting to the scale of the original establishment. The surviving masonry represents an important physical record of medieval monastic architecture and planning in the Midlands.
