Burton upon Trent Abbey is a ruined Benedictine monastery founded in the early eleventh century in Staffordshire. The abbey was established around 1004 and became one of the more significant monastic houses in the Midlands, accumulating considerable lands and influence throughout the medieval period. Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the sixteenth century, the abbey buildings were largely demolished, though fragmentary remains of the stone structures survive on the site, including portions of walls and foundations that testify to its former architectural extent. The abbey's ruins and its historical importance as a major religious and economic centre make it a significant monument of medieval Staffordshire monastic life.
