Caersws Roman Site is a Roman fort located in Montgomeryshire, Wales, situated strategically on the Afon Clywedog. The fort dates to the first and second centuries AD and formed part of the Roman military infrastructure in mid-Wales, serving to control the local population and facilitate communication across the region. The site comprises earthwork remains visible as a roughly rectangular enclosure with ditch systems characteristic of auxiliary forts of the period. Caersws held particular importance as one of the most westerly Roman establishments in Wales, positioned to consolidate Roman authority in the upland areas of central Wales during the campaigns of military consolidation following the invasion of AD 43.
