History & significance

The cairn represents a funerary structure characteristic of the Bronze Age period, when such monuments were erected as burial places, often containing stone-built cists for the inhumation of the deceased. The survival of both the cairn mound and its associated stone burial cist makes this an important example of Bronze Age burial practice in the south-western peninsula.
