The site consists of interrupted ditch segments and internal banks characteristic of early Neolithic defensive or ceremonial structures, dating to approximately 3500–2500 BCE. Its proximity to Church Hill suggests association with elevated terrain favourable for settlement and control of the surrounding landscape. The monument represents an important example of early agricultural community organisation in the Chilterns region during the period of Neolithic expansion across southern Britain.
