Camrose Mound and Bailey Castle is a motte and bailey earthwork located in Pembrokeshire, Wales, representing a common form of Norman fortification constructed following the Anglo-Norman conquest and settlement of South Wales during the late eleventh and twelfth centuries. The monument comprises a substantial mound with an associated bailey, or defended enclosure, typical of the rapid defensive structures erected by Norman lords to consolidate their control over conquered Welsh territory. Such fortifications served both military and administrative functions, establishing centres of Norman power in the region during a period of intensive castle building and territorial reorganisation. The earthwork survives as a landscape feature that demonstrates the widespread pattern of Norman settlement and defensive strategy characteristic of medieval Pembrokeshire.
