Cappuck is a Roman auxiliary fort located in Roxburghshire in the Scottish Borders, dating to the late second century AD during the period of Roman occupation north of Hadrian's Wall. The fort was established as part of the Roman military infrastructure supporting campaigns into Caledonia, particularly under the governorship of Agricola and subsequent operations during the Antonine period. Archaeological investigation has revealed the characteristic playing-card plan of a Roman auxiliary fort, with evidence of substantial stone and timber defences enclosing barrack blocks, administrative buildings, and storage facilities. The site was occupied intermittently as Roman military strategy in Scotland shifted, with the fort eventually abandoned in the early third century as Roman forces withdrew to more defensible positions further south.
