Carew Castle is a substantial medieval fortress situated in Pembrokeshire, Wales, which underwent development across several centuries from the Norman period onwards. The castle occupies a defensive position overlooking the Carew River estuary and comprises a stone-built structure with a distinctive round tower of twelfth-century Norman construction, alongside later medieval additions and fortifications. Significant rebuilding and residential enhancement occurred during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, when the castle functioned both as a military stronghold and an aristocratic residence. The site remained in use until the seventeenth century and is now maintained as a scheduled ancient monument by Cadw, Wales's historic monuments service.
