The site comprises remains of mining infrastructure including shafts, levels, and associated ore processing facilities that testify to the scale of lead production in this region. Lead mining in the Carrshield area intensified during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries when demand for the metal was substantial for industrial and construction purposes.
