Castell Brogyntyn is a ringwork castle situated approximately 300 metres north-east of Brogyntyn Farm in Shropshire. The monument comprises an earthwork defence consisting of a substantial bank and ditch forming a circular or oval enclosure, typical of Norman ringwork fortifications of the eleventh and twelfth centuries. Such fortifications served as modest strongholds for minor lords and were far more common in the Welsh Marches than the more elaborate motte-and-bailey castles, offering practical defence without requiring the considerable resources of larger masonry constructions. The site remains visible as an earthwork monument and represents an important example of early medieval military architecture in the borderland region.
