Castle Hill motte and bailey castle is a Norman defensive earthwork located at High Bradfield in South Yorkshire. The monument comprises a substantial mound or motte with an adjacent bailey, typical of the fortified settlements constructed during the Norman period following the conquest of England in 1066. The earthwork represents an important example of early medieval military architecture, built to establish Norman control over the South Yorkshire landscape during the late eleventh and twelfth centuries. The site survives as a prominent topographical feature and provides archaeological evidence of the early Norman settlement pattern in the region.
