Castle Ring is a large univallate hillfort situated on Oak Hill approximately 600 metres south-east of Crows Nest Farm in Shropshire. The monument is defined by a single substantial defensive bank and external ditch that encloses the hilltop, a characteristic layout typical of Iron Age hillforts in the English Midlands. The site commands views across the surrounding landscape, a location choice consistent with the strategic and territorial functions ascribed to such fortifications during the Iron Age period. Castle Ring represents an important example of prehistoric fortified settlement in Shropshire and survives as a significant earthwork monument.
