Halnaker Hill is a causewayed enclosure and associated archaeological site in Sussex. The causewayed enclosure itself belongs to the Neolithic period and represents a form of communal monument characteristic of early agricultural societies in Britain, comprising a series of interrupted ditches arranged in a defensive or ceremonial configuration. The site was subsequently reused during the Second World War, when searchlight emplacements and related military installations were constructed upon it, reflecting the strategic importance of the elevated position during the defence of southern England. The monument encompasses both these distinct periods of use, preserving evidence of Neolithic communal practice alongside twentieth-century military infrastructure.
