Cloghfin chambered grave is a portal tomb located near Omagh in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. This Neolithic megalithic monument consists of a stone burial chamber accessed through a distinctive portal entrance formed by two upright stones. Portal tombs represent one of the earliest forms of monumental architecture in Ireland, dating to the Neolithic period around 3500 to 3000 BCE. The monument is constructed from stone slabs positioned to create a covered burial chamber, typical of this tomb type, and would originally have been covered by an earthen mound.
The site rests on bedrock of the Fintona Group, a Late Devonian formation comprising sandstone, mudstone, siltstone and conglomerate. This underlying geology influenced both the location chosen by Neolithic communities and the materials available for monument construction in the area. The landscape around Omagh provided suitable stone for the megalithic builders of the time.
Cloghfin chambered grave is protected as a scheduled monument by the Historic Environment Division under reference 15521, recognising its significance as a surviving example of Neolithic burial architecture. The tomb remains an important witness to early farming communities and their ritual practices in north-central Ulster.
