Coverham Abbey is a Premonstratensian monastery founded in the twelfth century in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire. The abbey, established around 1190, became an important religious house of the Norbertine order and developed extensive precinct lands centred on the monastic buildings and associated structures. The site includes the remains of the abbey church, domestic buildings, the adjacent Holy Trinity Church which served the local community, and a medieval bridge that crossed the River Cover. Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the sixteenth century, the abbey fell into decay, though portions of its stone structures survive as upstanding ruins and below-ground archaeological deposits forming a coherent monument of medieval religious and economic significance.
