The site comprises a concrete pill box and associated anti-tank blocks forming part of the Cowie Line, a stop line constructed during 1940-1941 as part of the wider British defensive preparations against potential German invasion. Such installations were positioned to command approaches and create obstacles to armoured vehicle movement along key routes. The pill box would have accommodated a small garrison equipped with machine guns or anti-tank weapons, while the concrete blocks formed an anti-tank obstacle line intended to disrupt or canalize enemy armour.
