Dalcrombie is a post-medieval settlement comprising hut circles, occupation remains and associated field systems situated on moorland in Inverness-shire. The site lies on bedrock of the Moine Supergroup, Neoproterozoic metamorphic rocks comprising gneissose psammite and semipelite, which would have presented significant challenges to cultivation and building. The landscape's thin soils and exposed geology reflect the marginal terrain typical of upland settlement in the Highlands.
The settlement consists of hut circles, the characteristic roundhouse forms of Highland occupation, alongside field boundaries and cultivation evidence. This combination indicates a self-contained domestic and agricultural unit adapted to local conditions.
