Dere Street is a Roman road and earthwork that extends from Tow Ford to Blackhall Hill in Roxburghshire, Scotland. The road formed part of the principal Roman military route running northward from the frontier zone into Scotland, constructed during the campaigns of the first and second centuries AD and maintained through subsequent Roman occupation phases. The monument survives as an earthwork, with the characteristic agger or raised causeway of Roman road construction still visible across the landscape. This section of Dere Street represents significant evidence of Roman military infrastructure and infrastructure management in northern Britain, demonstrating the strategic importance of land routes during the Roman period.
