The monument belongs to the wedge tomb tradition of megalithic architecture, a distinctive tomb type characteristic of the Neolithic and Bronze Age periods in Ireland, typically constructed between approximately 3500 and 2500 BCE. Like other examples of its class, the tomb consists of a stone-built chamber aligned roughly east to west, constructed from large orthostatic slabs that narrow progressively toward the rear, characteristic of the wedge form.
