Domen Castell Mound and Bailey Castle is a motte-and-bailey fortification located in Wales, designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument under Cadw reference MG005. The site comprises a substantial earthen mound typical of Norman and early medieval defensive architecture, constructed to command the surrounding landscape and provide a stronghold for territorial control. Such fortifications were characteristic of the Norman settlement period in Wales during the eleventh and twelfth centuries, when military outposts were established to assert and maintain control over conquered lands. The physical remains demonstrate the strategic importance of the location and the engineering approach to defence that preceded the development of stone castles in the Welsh medieval period.
