Dun Aorain is a prehistoric dun or fortified settlement located on the island of Seil in Argyllshire, Scotland. The monument consists of the substantial stone remains of a defended homestead, characteristic of Iron Age settlement patterns in the Scottish Highlands and Islands, though occupation may have extended into the early historic period. The site occupies a naturally defensive position and demonstrates the architectural traditions of timber-laced or drystone construction typical of Hebridean and west Highland settlements. Such duns served as residences for elite families and provided defensive capability during a period of considerable social and military importance in the region.
