Dun Scarie is a Iron Age island dun located in Loch Scarie on North Uist in Inverness-shire, Scotland. The monument consists of a defensive stone structure situated on an island within the loch, typical of the dun class of fortifications that characterised settlement patterns in the Scottish Hebrides during the Iron Age period. Island duns such as Dun Scarie served as secure domestic and possibly communal strongholds, exploiting natural water barriers for protection whilst maintaining access to loch resources. The site remains an important archaeological record of Iron Age settlement strategy and defensive architecture in the western Scottish islands.
