Dundee and Newtyle Railway embankment SW of Balbeuchly House is a surviving section of the early railway infrastructure constructed for the Dundee and Newtyle Railway. The railway was established in the 1820s and represents one of Scotland's pioneering rail projects of the early industrial period. The embankment itself reflects the substantial earthworks required to maintain the line's gradient across the undulating Angus landscape.
