Eilean Fraoch is an Iron Age to Medieval crannog situated approximately 100 metres south of Loch Avich in Argyllshire, Scotland. Crannogs of this period were artificial or semi-artificial islands constructed in lochs and used as defensive settlements, and this example represents an important archaeological record of domestic occupation spanning several centuries. The site demonstrates the continuity of settlement patterns in the West Highlands during a period of significant social and political change. The crannog's survival in the loch environment has preserved structural and artefactual evidence that contributes to understanding Iron Age and Medieval settlement practices in Scotland.
