Eynsford Castle is a Norman motte-and-bailey fortification located in the village of Eynsford in the Darent Valley, Kent. The castle was established in the late eleventh century, with the earthwork mound and timber palisade forming part of the wider pattern of post-Conquest fortification across south-east England. The site was later developed with stone structures, including a stone keep and surrounding defensive walls, reflecting the transition from timber to masonry construction during the twelfth century. The castle declined in importance during the medieval period and was eventually abandoned, leaving substantial earthwork remains that survive as a testament to early Norman military architecture in the region.
