Overview

History & significance

Field walls, cairns and standing stone, part of pre-bog landscape is a Bronze Age archaeological complex in the Strabane area of County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. The site comprises field boundaries, burial or ceremonial cairns, and an upright stone monument that together form evidence of settlement and land management practices from the Bronze Age, before peat accumulation obscured the landscape. The preservation of these features beneath bog growth has allowed survival of archaeological material that demonstrates Bronze Age agricultural organisation and monumental practice in this region. The site contributes significantly to understanding prehistoric settlement patterns and environmental change in northwest Ulster during the later prehistory.
