History & significance

Four stone hut circles and a cairnfield 400m south-east of Wedlake Farm is a Bronze Age settlement located on the north-west slope of Roos Tor in Devon. The site comprises the structural remains of domestic occupation together with a field system of cairns, typical of the upland settlements that characterised Dartmoor during the second millennium BC. The hut circles represent the foundations of roundhouses, whose stone walls survive to low heights, whilst the cairnfield reflects the management and clearance of land for pastoral and arable activity. This settlement forms part of a broader complex of Bronze Age remains in the locality, contributing to understanding of Dartmoor's prehistoric exploitation and social organisation.
