Fowey Blockhouse is a Tudor artillery fortification located at Fowey in Cornwall, built during the reign of Henry VIII in the early sixteenth century as part of the coastal defence system protecting the strategically important harbour. The structure is a compact stone-built fortification designed to mount cannon and provide covering fire across the entrance to the river, exemplifying the new military architecture developed in response to advances in gunpowder weaponry. It forms part of a wider network of coastal defences established along the Cornish coast during this period of heightened maritime threat from foreign powers and privateers. The blockhouse remains substantially preserved and represents an important example of early Tudor military engineering adapted to local topographical and defensive requirements.
