Gidlow Hall moated site is a medieval moated enclosure located near Aspull in Lancashire. The site consists of a substantial rectangular moat which formerly surrounded a residential dwelling, representing a form of domestic fortification typical of the medieval period in northern England. Moated sites of this character were commonly constructed by minor gentry and prosperous landowners from the twelfth century onwards, serving both defensive and status-conferring functions. The Gidlow moat survives as an important archaeological record of medieval settlement patterns and social hierarchy in the Lancashire landscape.
