Gilkicker Fort is a mid-nineteenth-century coastal defence fortification located near Gosport in Hampshire. Built during the 1860s as part of the extensive Victorian fortifications programme designed to protect Portsmouth and its naval facilities, the fort represents the military engineering doctrine of the period. The structure is characterised by its distinctive polygonal trace and masonry construction, typical of mid-Victorian fort design. As one of the chain of defences erected along the Solent during a period of heightened international tension, Gilkicker Fort remains an important example of nineteenth-century military architecture and strategic coastal protection.
