Greenwich Hospital is a complex of buildings located in Greenwich, London, that served as a naval institution from the late seventeenth century onwards. The site was developed following the establishment of the Royal Hospital for Seamen at Greenwich in 1694, which was founded through the patronage of Queen Mary II to provide care and accommodation for retired naval personnel. The principal structures were designed by Sir Christopher Wren and other notable architects of the period, featuring classical architecture characteristic of late Stuart institutional building. The Hospital subsequently became the Royal Naval College in the nineteenth century, and the surviving buildings remain significant examples of Baroque and neoclassical architecture dedicated to naval service and training.
