Gruting School is a post-medieval settlement and field system located at the head of Scutta Voe in Shetland, Scotland. The site comprises the remains of structures and associated agricultural land which reflect the settlement patterns and farming practices of the early modern period in Shetland. The field system demonstrates the intensive land use characteristic of post-medieval crofting communities in the Northern Isles, with evidence of both residential occupation and the cultivation of arable and pastoral ground. This monument is recorded within the Scottish heritage database as an important example of the permanent settlement hierarchy that developed in Shetland following the transfer of the islands to Scottish sovereignty in 1469.
