Hadrian's Wall and vallum in wall mile 7, Scotswood section is a segment of the second-century Roman frontier barrier that stretched across northern Britain. This portion of the wall, extending from Denton Road to Denton Dene in Northumberland, dates to the period following the wall's construction under the Emperor Hadrian from approximately 122 AD onwards. The site preserves elements of both the wall itself and the vallum, a substantial earthwork consisting of a ditch flanked by two parallel mounds that ran to the south of the wall and served administrative and military functions within the frontier zone. The Scotswood section represents an important survival of the wall's structure within the landscape near Newcastle, where the monument retains archaeological significance for understanding Roman military engineering and frontier management in Britain.
