Hagnaby Abbey is a Premonstratensian abbey founded in the twelfth century in Lincolnshire, established as a house of canons regular following the rule of Saint Norbert. The abbey functioned as a religious community until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the sixteenth century, after which the site was converted to domestic use. Following the suppression of the monastery, a post-medieval house was constructed incorporating elements of the earlier religious buildings, accompanied by formal gardens which reflect the aesthetic preferences of its later occupants. The abbey survives today as an ancient monument, with archaeological and structural remains demonstrating the continuity of occupation and adaptation of the site from its monastic period through to its transformation into a secular residence.
