Hawcocks Mount is a ringwork castle situated approximately 200 metres north-east of Hawcocks Farm in Shropshire. The monument consists of a circular or sub-circular earthwork defence comprising a bank and ditch, typical of Norman period fortifications constructed during the eleventh and twelfth centuries. Such ringworks represent a common form of castle in the post-Conquest period, particularly in the Welsh Marches, serving as administrative centres and defensive strongholds for Anglo-Norman lords. The survival of the earthwork demonstrates the enduring physical legacy of early medieval feudal settlement in the region.
