Hillfort and later strip lynchets on Dungeon Hill is a multi-period earthwork site located 500 metres north of Castle Hill Cottages in Dorset. The site comprises an Iron Age hillfort, evidenced by its defensive ramparts and ditches, overlain by later strip lynchets that represent medieval or post-medieval agricultural activity. The strip lynchets, which are the visible terraced field boundaries resulting from ploughing, demonstrate the subsequent use of the hillfort location for arable farming. The survival of both phases of activity on the same site provides archaeological evidence of the long-term exploitation of this hilltop location across different historical periods.
