Housesteads fort, section of Wall and vallum between the field boundary west of milecastle 36 and the field boundary west of turret 37a in wall miles 36 and 37, is a scheduled ancient monument forming part of Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland. This section of the Roman frontier fortification dates to the second century AD, constructed following the Emperor Hadrian's visit to Britain around 122 AD. The remains comprise substantial portions of the stone defensive wall itself, the vallum (a ditch-and-mound earthwork running parallel to the wall's south side), and associated military structures including milecastle 36 and turret 37a. This stretch preserves evidence of the wall's physical construction and the integrated defensive system that characterised the northern frontier of Roman Britain.
