The monument consists of a circular or sub-circular earthwork typical of domestic structures from the later Bronze Age period, when such hut circles were commonly constructed across the moorland landscape. The site is positioned in the upland terrain characteristic of Dartmoor's prehistoric settlement pattern, where communities exploited the available resources during the second millennium BCE.
