Cow Down is an Iron Age settlement located on the chalk downland of Wiltshire, north west of Haycombe Hill Farm. The site comprises the earthwork remains of enclosures and associated settlement features characteristic of Iron Age occupation in the Wessex region, dating broadly to the pre-Roman Iron Age period. The monument survives as a series of ditches and banks that define the structural layout of the settlement, providing evidence of domestic and possibly agricultural organisation during this period. Such upland settlements represent important archaeological testimony to Iron Age land use and social patterns across the Wiltshire chalk landscape.
