Killean is a deserted township located 700 metres west-northwest of Carn Ban on the Isle of Mull in Argyllshire, Scotland. The site comprises the remains of human settlement, evidenced by structural remains typical of post-medieval township organisation. The abandonment of such settlements across the Scottish Highlands and Islands reflects the broader patterns of depopulation and agricultural reorganisation that occurred from the eighteenth century onwards, driven by factors including the Highland Clearances and changing land management practices. Like many deserted townships in the region, Killean represents an important archaeological record of rural settlement patterns and the human landscape of the Hebrides prior to modern reorganisation.
