Knight's Hillock Motte is a medieval motte situated near Innes in Morayshire, Scotland. The earthwork comprises a substantial mound characteristic of eleventh to thirteenth-century fortification design, constructed to support a timber or stone superstructure within a defensive palisade. Such mottes formed the dominant strongholds of Norman and Anglo-Norman lords across Scotland and northern England during the medieval period, serving administrative and military functions within the feudal hierarchy. The site's location in Morayshire reflects the expansion of Anglo-Norman influence into northern Scotland during the twelfth century, particularly under the patronage of the Scottish crown.
