Law Mount is a motte and bailey castle situated approximately 250 metres south-west of High Castleton in Ayrshire, Scotland. The site consists of a mounded earthwork typical of Norman and early medieval fortifications, constructed to serve defensive and administrative purposes in the medieval period. The motte, or artificial mound, would have supported a timber or stone tower, whilst the bailey, or outer ward, provided an enclosed space for domestic and military functions. This monument represents the form of castle construction prevalent in the twelfth century and later medieval periods across Scotland and northern England, reflecting the feudal organisation and military technology of the era.
