The monument north-east of Ger Tor is a Bronze Age enclosed settlement consisting of a boundary wall defining a large enclosure within which seven stone hut circles are situated. The hut circles represent domestic structures typical of the later Bronze Age period, when such stone-built roundhouses became increasingly common on the upland margins of Dartmoor. The enclosure wall itself suggests deliberate organization of the settlement space and possibly served defensive or stock-management functions characteristic of Bronze Age communities. The site demonstrates the pattern of prehistoric settlement on Dartmoor's high ground, where such enclosed compounds with associated domestic structures form an important archaeological record of Bronze Age land use and social organization in Devon.
