Lindores Eelhouse is a medieval eelhouse located approximately 400 metres north-east of Abdie Parish Church in Fife, Scotland. The structure sits upon bedrock comprising unnamed extrusive rocks of Silurian to Devonian age, formed during the Devonian period as mafic lava and mafic tuff. This geological foundation provided a stable base for the construction of medieval fisheries in the region.
The eelhouse represents a specialist form of medieval fish-farming infrastructure designed to trap, hold and manage freshwater eels. Such structures were constructed alongside rivers and burns to exploit the seasonal migration patterns of eels, which were a valuable protein source and commodity in medieval Scotland.
