Llanthony Priory is a Benedictine monastic foundation established in the Vale of Ewyas in Monmouthshire, South Wales, in the early twelfth century, with the priory itself formally founded around 1108. The site comprises substantial remains of the church, residential ranges, and ancillary buildings, including distinctive Early English and Early Medieval architectural features that document its development through the medieval period. The priory functioned as a significant religious community until its dissolution during the sixteenth century, serving as both a centre of spiritual life and a focus for settlement in this remote valley location. The surviving masonry, particularly the imposing remains of the church fabric, represents one of the most substantial monastic ruins in Wales and provides important evidence for the archaeological understanding of medieval monastic planning and architecture.
