The Lovat Scouts' First World War training trenches at Docking is a scheduled ancient monument comprising a system of practice entrenchments constructed during the First World War. The trenches were dug by the Lovat Scouts, a Scottish irregular military unit, as part of their training and preparation for active service in the trenches of the Western Front. Located in Norfolk, the site preserves physical evidence of the intensive trench warfare training undertaken on the British home front during 1914 to 1918. The surviving earthworks provide archaeological evidence of early twentieth-century military practice and the methods by which soldiers were prepared for the conditions they would encounter in continental warfare.
